Two weeks ago I had the honor to capture Allie and Dan’s gorgeous winter wedding reception at the John Marshall Hotel.
Allie and Dan are the absolute best of friends. Since they’ve been living together for almost 3 years, they love being able to enjoy the little moments. Moments like going out to eat, watching Netflix and loving their adorable pup, Bubba. These bright and bubbly lovers wanted their wedding photos to be all about fun, laughter and enjoying the happy moments while they’re young. While many couples may think that your wedding day should be stiff & posed, it doesn’t always have to be that way. Rather make your wedding day yours and just remember to have fun! The most important part about your special day is that you’re doing what makes YOU happy and nobody else.
Allie and Dan actually had gotten married and done all the fun legal paperwork the day before. However, they wanted to be able to celebrate with all of their loved ones during their reception. They wanted their wedding to focused more on the party than the ceremony.
I met up with Allie and Dan at the John Marshall Hotel and we went outside for some wedding portraits. The goal for their photos was very moody. Think high-fashion, Great Gatsby type look – ya know? I love when my couples have a certain vision for their wedding day and we’re really able to get creative. The photos that we got though were just *chefs kiss*. Some of my favorites definitely were the blurry shots and playing around with the sun and shadow. I also love to incorporate some b/w images as well!
After finishing up portraits, we then made our way inside to finish up and head to the party! Can we just give a huge shoutout though the beauty that is The John Marshall Hotel. The decor and architecture inside of the building really elevated that elegant, roaring 20’s type vibe that we were going for and I was beyond obsessed. Once portraits were done, it was officially time for party time. We basically ended the night with some cake cutting, bustin’ moves on the dance floor and finished off with Allie & Dan’s grand exit. Allie & Dan had a sparkler exit and these are always some of my favorite to shoot. Pro tip though, try getting the sparklers that have longer stems! Sometimes photographers like to take grand exit photos a few different times, so having a longer stem prevents your sparkler from sizzling out before everything is done!
Overall, the day was a major success. I loved being able to capture these moments for Allie & Dan and be able to play around my creativity too. I’m always for testing the limits, trying new things and just having fun because that’s what I am here for! As much as A+D aren’t PDA type individuals, their love still radiated and felt like them through my lens and that’s all that I can ask for. Congrats A+D – cheers!!!!
