Last year I had the honor of doing family photos for Amira + John and their sweet little fam. Throughout the whole session they were talking to me about how they put so much focus on their family. However, I would love to be able at some point to have photos of just the two of them. Of course your family is important and is a major priority, but it’s also important to put you two first sometimes and focus on nurturing and flourishing your relationship. No matter what stage you’re in! Earlier this Summer I had taken to social media looking for models for a stylized shoot I was planning in the downtown area. Amira and John had reached out looking to be models but I knew EXACTLY what the vision should be. I just knew that this bohemian sand dunes elopement was going to be EVERYTHING… and more.
So for this shoot, we really wanted it to be dreamy and bohemian. Of course, that means we needed to make sure that the wardrobe fit the part! I was able to rent a dress from Raw Golden Rentals while thankfully John was able to curate his own outfit. Let’s just say that these two understood the assignment… YES!!! Surprisingly too, your girl is not just a photographer but I guess a florist now too *sarcasm*. My friend Lea Meissler and I went out and bought some flowers for this shoot and decided to make Amira’s bouquet ourselves. Let me just say… not too shabby, huh!
For this bohemian sand dunes elopement, we made our way to the Jockey Ridge Sand Dunes in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These sand dunes are actually located inside the state park and have some of the tallest living sand dunes on the Atlantic coast. The park is large enough to participate in so many outdoor activities which made it perfect for our creative vision.
We really wanted to make sure we caught the beautiful sunset/golden hour. Which honestly wasn’t that hard since there is so much exploring to do. Once the sunset finally came it was absolutely spectacular. The skies were pink and blue and really looked like cotton candy… can you tell I’m hungry? For this bohemian elopement we really just wanted to focus on the love and passion between Amira and John. Since this was an elopement/stylized shoot/shoot for John and Amira we really wanted to make this experience special for them. They moved so flawlessly in front of the camera and really knew the creative direction we were looking for and it was just pure perfection.
It seriously just feels so good when a creative vision like this comes together and the end result is just so beautiful. Stepping outside of our comfort zone and really being able to play around with our creativity and learn new things and test our limits is one of the many reasons I love what I do.
As for Amira and John, they are currently engaged and are looking to get married within the next few years. Don’t mind me while I’m counting down the days when we can finally catch up and maybe talk about the wedding plans – teehee.
